New Coffee Payment Method introduced

imageCoffee Beans will soon become the alternative payment method for Kasumi DeMarco at Wildcat SEO

Any quotations made by the SEO Goddess will have the alternative coffee bean payment method attached.

The coffee beans will be worth varying amounts depending on their weight, quality and appeal.

At this time Kasumi reserves the right to refuse a certain type of coffee bean dependant on her own personal preference.

We are aware of several other SEO and Online marketing businesses who will be monitoring the success of this scheme before introducing their own alternative payment methods, so far we have heard through the grapevine that both chocolate and curry powders are both being investigated ready for launching at this time next year.

comparethemeerkat.com comparethemarket.com

We have all seen the funny ads on TV recently, just in case you haven’t…watch below:

This isn’t just a funny advert, it’s a very clever way of using simple misdirection, an honest mistake even, to advertise a very different business and related website.

Just think about the consequences of this type of promotion, all over the country people are talking about this ad and it’s companion website – very clever indeed.

Ask yourself this question, if you want to attract more visitors and business to your web site then can you think of a more original way of doing this?

I think we have all missed the boat on this particular one, as the first is often the best remembered, and thinking about that, I guess we have concluded the purpose of the advert in the first place.

For reference, check out the web site www.comparethemeerkat.com and you will see that not only has the advert itself been cleverly worded and produced, but the companion website delivers a terrific experience as well, just hang around, click some links and no doubt you will be prompted for a redirection, how many of you chose the “I’m serious about meerkats link?”

This campaign is fresh and different in a market that is near saturation, how can we all learn from this?

The trick is to stay alert, never dismiss any idea until you have thought it through completely, you may be on to something so test your ideas out on friends and colleagues and watch their reaction, if most of them like it then you might have the beginnings of something good, possibly even viral which could be where this advert is heading.

I have to add the word “meerkats” to my dictionary as I write this because the spellchecker just keeps throwing this one up all the time, that kind of makes it’s own statement I guess and we should always consider that not everyone searching online has perfect spelling and grammar.

If you have an idea similar and as offbeat as this one why not roll with it, see where it takes you, hopefully to a flourishing web site and bulging order book but beware, being creative and different is all very well but if you come up with a successful campaign like this one, what exactly do you follow it with?

Simples!

Beijing Olympic Games – has your site missed the gold?

Google returns the following for the search term ” Beijing 2008 Olympic Games ” – 17,400,000 returns for Beijing 2008 Olympic Games

This is particularly interesting from an SEO perspective where using these keywords on a sports related site or blog can drive a lot of traffic to the site.

This post serves to show what could be done to improve site traffic for specific events but is largely being ignored as a method of traffic generation.

If you doubt this then ask yourself: What did you search for to get here?

The importance of global events and their influence on web site ranking should not be taken lightly by both web site owners and SEO specialists alike and as such they should demonstrate the ability to recognise opportunities for relevant site traffic capture wherever possible for their clients.

Articles and other content must of course be relevant to the site content unless of course the site is based around a collection of articles from different subject areas. There is nothing wrong in using articles or event specific content to drive traffic to your site but you may wish to consider how interested your visitors are going to be with the information on your site.

Is your SEO company performing for you?

If not what are you prepared to do about it….Go wild and get your site seen!

Geographical SEO

Search engine optimisation is often considered to be on a global scale, with web designers and SEO companies targeting the bigger picture in order to optimise a web site and increase traffic and search result positioning.

All too easily the smaller picture can be overlooked and this is where many web sites have failed in the past, they are good sites but they are targeting the world rather than being geographically targeted.

The geographical location of a company can sometimes be a hindrance, perhaps the location is chosen for other reasons, often financial and this may in some cases strangle the effectiveness of the company to appeal to the larger potential client base.

With the creation of the Internet and the requirement of many companies to have a functional web site it can be the case that the target for these companies gets somewhat blurred in their attempt to both justify their web presence and spread the word that their company exists, showcasing what they can provide to clients.

The mad rush to get online has long since passed but the hunger for companies to increase sales and capture new business is more important than ever especially in light of the current credit crunch.

Having your web site targeting your immediate geographical location is often overlooked but in reality this can be a significant step to global promotion as the time and effort spent in locality targeting will help to lay the foundations of a solid and relevant web site through content and keyword management.

A well structured and implemented optimisation strategy on a locally targeted market will ultimately assist your site to climb the SERPS and get your brand awareness out there where it belongs.

New Breed of Search Engine

A new breed of search engine has recently launched and claims to be the biggest search engine in the world!

Their about us section includes the following statement:

“The Internet has grown exponentially in the last fifteen years but search engines have not kept up—until now. Cuil searches more pages on the Web than anyone else—three times as many as Google and ten times as many as Microsoft.”

source: http://www.cuil.com/info/

The biggest innovation that is immediately obvious is the way search results are displayed. Until the launch of cuil.com we have been used to a formatted list in a single column but this has all changed with search results being presented in two or three columns across the results page, not exactly revolutionary but the result is surprisingly easy to read and navigate.

The main difference from the current search engines is the way in which cuil.com searches for you.

Perhaps it is best to let cuil.com explain it their way:

“Rather than rely on superficial popularity metrics, Cuil searches for and ranks pages based on their content and relevance. When we find a page with your keywords, we stay on that page and analyze the rest of its content, its concepts, their inter-relationships and the page’s coherency.”

Whatever the outcome it is sure to raise a few eyebrows and who knows may even change our perception of search engines to come.
